VISIONARY GARDENS COMMUNITY PROJECT

Sharptop Arts is currently transforming the existing landscape at the art center into a Visionary Arts Garden with many creative vistas. Currently, the landscaping is very basic and not conducive to classes or events. By expanding our boundaries to include the great outdoors, we offer the community a delightful soul feeding experience of a unique and very creative garden setting where classes can be held, events can take place, or can be visited for quiet contemplation and wondrous discovery.

“The Feathered Event” was a Huge Success!

Our birdhouse fundraiser, “The Feathered Event” was a huge success! In keeping with the Visionary Gardens concept, this truly was an event for the entire community. Eighty-three birdhouses literally flew in from California, New Mexico, Virginia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, and of course, Georgia. A big thank you to all who participated in this contest and to making it a success.

The winners of the birdhouse contest were: 1st, Bobby Blane of Gainesville with “Camp Amma”; 2nd, Sandy Erickson-Wright of Roswell with “There’s No Place Like Home”; and 3rd, Darrell Reddy of Jasper with “Fat Cats”.

The Peoples Choice award winners were: 1st, Bradley MacAlister with a mixed media piece of turned magnolia wood and found lamp parts, 2nd, Randy Starnes with "Pancakes", and we had a tie for 3rd place between Candye Massengale with "Canton Theatre" and Kathe Hall with "American Express Gold."

Come Play With Us!

The gardens will be divided into "vistas", with each one offering a uniquely creative experience. We are offering the vistas to the public at large to de-sign and create each one. We are offering you to adopt a vista. The concept is just like a designer show-house, where each room or "vista" is created by a different designer/creator. Each vista will have certain pa-rameters to be included, but other than that, we are asking the community to submit story boards with your idea for creating a vista. The story boards will be reviewed by the selection committee and will be announced February, 2010.  View and download the Vista Layout Plan here. You can download and view a color photo and description of each individual Vista from the sidebar on the right. View and download the Approved Plant List here.

Each creator must be willing to present a story board of their creation, facilitate, purchase, and install all materials in the vista and com-plete within a designated timeline. Sharptop Arts will consider any requests for reimbursement of funds to purchase major items in each vista. Approval is subject to committee vote and budget available. Once built, each creator is not responsible for maintenance. All items in each vista become property of Sharptop Arts Association upon completion.

How it Works

Each vista will have certain parameters to be included, but other than that, we are asking the community to submit story boards with your idea for creating a vista. The story boards will be reviewed by the selection committee and will be announced February, 2010.  Click here for a map to the Arts Center.

Community Partner Benefits

Each vista will have a prominent name plaque honoring the design team and sponsor. A great means to get your name out into the community. Hemlock's Landscape Management is partnering with Shaprtop Arts Association to provide a complete transformation of the front gardens and will act as project coordinator in all aspects to bring cohesiveness to the gardens. View and download the Partner Benefits Information Sheet here.

We invite you to join our efforts of transformation by either choosing to create one or more vistas, volunteer to stage vistas, or perhaps become a sponsor on some level. Vistas may be adopted by a group of participants as well as individuals.

Fundraisers

We will be holding various fundraisers to support the project: the spring plant sale, a birdhouse building contest with the best of the birdhouses included in a unique perpetual calendar which is available for purchase, and Christmas ornaments, just to name a few. Go to News and Events and the Sharptop Calendar for more information about upcoming fundraisers.
