NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS

May 1 - 17
Children’s Show

The Youth and Children’s Shows have created a lot of excitement and activity here at Sharptop Arts Center.  This is indeed one of the best and most well-attended shows we do each year.  All students in the Pickens County area are invited to display their work.   Art teachers from Pickens High School, Pickens Middle School, Jasper Middle School, Hill Elementary, Harmony Elementary, Jasper Elementary, Tate Elementary, Wildwood Academy, and Home Schoolers are preparing to show off their best work of the year.

Put this on your calendar and come out to see the amazing budding talent that we have here in our own community.

May 22 - May 31
clothespin Show

Reception Saturday May 24, 2008 / 5 - 7 pm

Celebrate the beginning of summer and show off your artistic creations at the Clothespin Art Show. If you lean more toward art appreciation, come by and see the show. This is a great way to see how creative your local art community is.

Requirements to Show

Two or three-dimensional work in all mediums will be accepted. No framed art allowed! We will use clothespins to hang unframed two-dimensional pieces. Matting is optional. Three-dimensional work must be ready to display on a table or hung on our clothesline. If you wish, you could even show a "work in progress" and get feedback from the viewers.

Cost to display work is $1.00 per piece. We will provide clothespins, but if you are a crafter, feel free to bring your own decorated clothespins and personalize your display.

All artists and crafters are welcome to show their work but must be age 18 or over. Participating artists should deliver and hang their work on Thursday May 22, 2008 between 12 and 4 pm. Pre-registration is not required. Registration forms will be available at the Sharptop Art Association on May 22 for completion when you arrive.

*SHARPTOP HISTORICAL INFO NEEDED*

Sharptop Arts is beginning the process to get their own home, the Tom Quinton House, listed on the National Register. The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States government's official list of places worthy of preservation. Its goals are to help identify and protect historic sites in the United States.

Additional information is needed.  Can you help?

1.  Photocopies of historic photographs
2.  Verification that WPA was the builder
3.  More detailed history of the Women’s Club and building
4.  Scrapbooks of the Women’s Club
5.  Plaque attached to the building with information, if existing

If you have any photos, scrapbooks, or newspaper clippings pertaining to the building, they would like to copy them. If you can provide anecdotal information or stories about the original building, let them interview you. If you can tell them any of these ways to validate or verify information about the building, contact Sharon Nardo 706-301-9132 or Mary Ann Clayton 706-692-2869.

CREATE AN ART EVENT

Are you an artist who has always dreamed of hosting your own gallery exhibit - or a collector who would like to share your art with other folks who would appreciate and enjoy seeing it and talking about it?

If so, then the Sharptop Arts Center is exactly the place for you.  This charming and bright, centrally located building located just north of downtown Jasper is perfect for just such a venture.

Meet new friends and share your passion for your creations or collection.  Be the Host or Hostess of the Friday evening opening party.  We will add news and details about your show in the weekly Pickens Progress Arts Center article, and our web designer will promote your show on our website.  And, of course, you are welcome to offer your pieces for sale as well, should you choose to.

Just bring yourself and your art!
