CLASSES AT SHARPTOP

This year at Sharptop new classes will be offered to help you achieve your dreams – to attempt art mediums you have always wanted to try. New craft classes will be offered to tempt you into trying something new. New friends to make as you paint, sculpt, knit or crochet and laugh and learn together.  Stay tuned for dates and times of class offerings.  You can also get a quick overview on the Sharptop Calendar.

Kids! STORYTELLING: Tall Tales and Spooky Stories
July 2, 9, 23 and 30 from 10:00am to 12:00pm
Tall Tale Party: Friday Evening, July 30
Cost $85 for this 4 session workshop*
Ages 7-14. Basic materials provided
Instructor: Chris Rumble

Learn how to make up and tell a story that will have your audience spellbound! This fun-filled class will conclude with a Tall Tale Party on Friday, July 30. Children’s Author-Illustrator Chris Rumble has wowed over 250,000 kids with his stories. Participants receive a free autographed book of their choice. Kids! MUSIC FUN: Play and Sing Like a ROCK STAR!

Chris Rumble will teach guitar basics and unleash the lead singer in students in preparation for their big debut concert on Friday, July 30. In Depth Photography
July 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Cost $85 for this 4 session workshop

Instructors Gail Stewart and George Bradfield will focus on photography of Landscapes on July 6, Macro on July 13, Portraits on July 20 and Still Life on July 27.

The Art of Seeing/Creative Photography
July 8, 15, 22, 29 from 9:30am to 11:30am

Cost $130 for this 4 session workshop
Instructor Jennifer Julian will discuss what it means to see with your camera and how to express yourself through photography. This beginner class is for digital or film users, and for those who use automatic or manual controls. There will be an outdoor photo shoot, indoor black and white photo shoot, a field trip to a museum or gallery, a little history, and a class focus on the fundamentals of art (composition, shapes, etc) and how they apply to photography.

Kids! AUTHORS and ILLUSTRATORS: Write and Illustrate Your Own Story
July 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm

Southern Market Basket-Intermediate Weaving
July 13 from 9:00am to 3:00pm & July 14 from 9:00am to 1:00pm
Cost $140 (Class $50 and $90 for the basket materials kit)
Instructor: Barbara Chatham

In this two session workshop, Instructor Barbara Chatham will teach more advanced weaves making a Southern Market Basket. The Southern Market basket size is 10" X 10" X 6". This wonderful basket has a handle and is useful in the garden or going to market. This type of basket is very sturdy as well as beautiful. Students should bring a ruler, pencil, scissors, towel, a flathead screwdriver and a spray mist bottle. You may also want to bring a sandwich, cola or water for lunch. Family Day Clay Sculpture
July 17 from 9:00am to 11:00am
Cost $30 for each parent with a child
Instructor: Dee Boggus

Moms or Dads bring your 5 to 12 year old child with you to learn the basics of clay sculpture handbuilding together. Instructor Dee Boggus will provide clay, tools, materials and teach you both how to identify the basic geometric shapes of an animal. You will also learn how to mold and attach each basic clay shape to create your own original animal sculptures. A fun and inexpensive way to spend some quality time with your child and learn more about art. Parent must accompany child during class instruction. Wildlife & Landscape Drawing
July 8, 15, 22, 29 from 6pm to 8pm
Cost: $85 for this 4 session workshop
Instructor: Alan Young

Renowned wildlife artist, Alan Young, will teach pen and ink drawing to beginning and intermediate level students. The class includes fundamentals for drawing; emphasizing composition, perspective, light principle and horizons. Experiment with textures and contrasts as they relate to nature. Explore rapidograph and ballpoint pen methods. Students need to bring an 18x24 80lb. sketch book/drawing pad. All other supplies provided. Family Day Clay Pottery

Cost $30 for each parent with a child
Instructor: Dee Boggus

Moms or Dads bring your 5 to 12 year old child with you to learn the basics of clay pottery hand building together. Instructor Dee Boggus will provide clay, tools, materials and teach you both the hand building methods of coil, slab and pinch. You will also learn how to shape and attach clay to create your own clay pottery. A fun and inexpensive way to spend some quality time with your child and learn more about art. Nantucket Lightship Woven Purse-Advanced Weaving
September 8 from 9:00am to 1:00pm

Bring New England to Georgia by making your own Nantucket Lightship Woven Purse. In this four-session workshop, instructor Barbara Chatham will teach you how to make a Nantucket Lighthouse Woven Purse. Historical from Nantucket Island in Massachusetts, this is a lovely purse of heirloom quality. Skills are advanced and the effort is rewarded with a beautiful purse. History of this purse, examples, and materials will be taught. Students should bring a ruler, small sharp scissors, towel, a water mist bottle, clothespins and a small regular hammer.
